Fill the Bus Service Project - On going all day. Each college will have a focus area for donations to local community organizations. For details, watch for e-mails and other communications from your college. For more information, visit the Center for Service-Learning and Civic Engagement website or call 353-4400.

9:00 a.m. - 12:00 p.m. Colloquium with Your College

Please see the colloquium schedule for times and locations.

You are REQUIRED to attend this session that completes your introduction to your college and major. Each college will offer sessions where new students will learn more about activities in the college, and have a chance to talk in small groups with faculty and instructors about expectations and strategies for success in the particular field of study. The Undergraduate University Division will meet with “no preference” students.

9:00 a.m.- 12:00 p.m. James Madison College (JMC) Impact of Policy in Practice, Wilson Auditorium, and dispersed in groups to Lansing area organizations for policy panels and discussion.

  • Wear your JMC t-shirts, nametags, and be thoughtful of your attire. You will be visiting JMC alumni and organizations. Note: You will be leaving campus during this time!

11:00 a.m. – 3:00 p.m. Drop-In Days for Student Jobs - August 28 – August 31, Career Services in 113 Student Services Building  

  • Drop in to Career Services in the Student Services Building all week! Our career advisors will be available with resources to help you find a part-time job, tips to polish your resume and advice for preparing for the Student Job & Internship Fair coming up on Wednesday, September 6.

  • BRING YOUR BOOK! Be sure you have read the book! Small groups will be dispersed with faculty to other rooms after an introduction.

2:00 p.m. - 4:30 p.m. The Resource Center for Persons with Disabilities (RCPD) Welcome Orientation Workshop and Open House, 120 Bessey Hall

Meet your Ability Access Specialist and learn about accommodations & services available to you. VISA accommodation letters will be provided to those who request them in advance. Faculty will be available for questions, and light refreshments will be served.

3:00 p.m. - 4:30 p.m. Commuter/Transfer Student Meeting, B115 Wells Hall.

  • New students to MSU who do not reside on campus are strongly encouraged to attend this session. Information on making MSU your “home away from home” and an opportunity to meet fellow commuting Spartans are the goals of this session.
  • Those students who have previously attended another post-secondary institution but are new to MSU are REQUIRED to attend this session. Important information about such topics as transfer of credits, parking, and feeling connected to MSU will be highlighted.

3:00 p.m. - 4:30 p.m. Honors College Convocation, Kellogg Center Big Ten Rooms A/B

All Honors College students are invited and expected to attend this brief welcoming ceremony. The Convocation will be followed by a reception and an opportunity to sign up for Honors College student organizations and meet other Honors College students and Honors advisors.

The "Fall Welcome Spartan Spectacular", Location has been changed to Breslin and Munn Ice Arena.

You are strongly encouraged to join us for the "Fall Welcome Spartan Spectacular" event showcasing some of our traditional programs with a touch of a few new and spectacular components. Spartan Spectacular will kick-off with a Fall Welcome Cook-out. This will be followed by our traditional Sparticipation event which will highlight over 400 student organizations. Next up will be the biggest Pep Rally in the “Big Ten”, the Spartan Spirit event. Spartan Spirit will feature greetings by campus VIP’s including President Simon, numerous athletic coaches, and the MSU homecoming court. MSU’s own magnificent MSU Marching band will be on hand as well, to provide lots of traditional MSU songs that will let you know you are truly at “the school known to all”! We will close out the evening with a spectacular Spartan laser show. Don’t miss this spectacular Spartan event that will officially start your academic career.

4:00 p.m. - 10:00 p.m. The "Fall Welcome Spartan Spectacular", Breslin and Munn Ice Arena

Fall Welcome Cookout - Food Service ends at 8:00 p.m. (All residential dining halls will be closed from 4-8pm.)
