Welcome Message
Welcome from President
Dear Spartans,
Congratulations on choosing to be part of this vibrant, diverse and caring university community that is Michigan State.
Like many of you, I’m pretty new to MSU. I spent the spring and summer getting acquainted with faculty and staff colleagues across the university and have been most warmly received. Through our Fall Welcome and other orientation activities, I hope you feel the same as you settle in.
What I’ve seen convinces me that, at Michigan State, you have virtually unlimited opportunities to learn, make lifelong friends and grow. But I know that finding your place in such a dynamic community doesn’t always come easily. In fact, meeting people might be even harder than when I was an undergraduate, due to competition for our attention from electronic devices and other social factors.
So, we are working harder than ever to support your entry into our amazing community of scholars. You’ll see us doing things like sharing the experiences of upper-level students in our social media and other channels. You’ll see messages around campus offering opportunities to join activities and meet others. You’ll receive information about available resources and how to support your academic success. And when you see me around campus, I hope you feel free to say hello and let me know how you’re doing.
And there’s nothing like Fall Welcome for a full immersion into this busy campus! It’s a great, early opportunity to find your social groups, with more than 1,000 registered student organizations in addition to innumerable events and activities throughout the year.
I urge you to approach your Michigan State University experience with curiosity, a sense of adventure and a determination to engage. Remember that our university faculty and staff are here to support your success, and you can take advantage of the many student support resources we offer, from academic advising to health care.
At Michigan State, you are an important part of something big and wonderful: a lifelong community of Spartans. Go Green!
Sincerely,
Kevin M. Guskiewicz, Ph.D.
