RSO Policy Handbook

Green Michigan State Block 'S' with text Division of Student Affairs, Department of Student Life, Involve@State, involve.msu.edu

The Department of Student Development and Leadership and the Office of Spartan Experiences are here to support your involvement and success within your student organization(s). Our team has years of experience working with student organizations and has seen firsthand the positive impact that strong, supported groups can have on both the individual student experience and the broader campus community.

The RSO Policy Handbook is designed to be a practical resource as you navigate the operations of your organization and work to create an enriching Spartan Experience for yourself and your peers.

Our approach to supporting student organizations is grounded in four key theoretical frameworks:
  • Astin’s Student Involvement Theory
  • Tinto’s Model of Student Departure
  • Baxter Magolda’s Theory of Self-Authorship
  • Komives’ Social Change Model of Leadership Development
To learn more about these, visit: MSU RSO Key Theories.

Use the menu on the right side of the page to explore some common resources for our RSOs and utilize the RSO Policy Handbook as needed throughout your journey.

We’re grateful for the contributions you make and excited for the growth, learning, and impact you’ll experience through student involvement at MSU.

Please don’t hesitate to reach out to the RSO Team with any questions, needs, or support requests—we’re here for you!
