MSU Student Health and Wellness

HEALTH SERVICES
Primary care medical services are available on campus year-round at Olin Health Center (463 E. Circle Drive). Neighborhood clinics are typically open during the fall and spring semesters. Hours vary by location.

Services available at Olin Health Center include laboratory, radiology, physical therapy and gynecologic services, as well as an allergy and immunization clinic. Neighborhood Clinics are for immunizations, nurse visits, and asymptomatic STI testing (limited lab testing, and no on-site radiology).

Appointments are required, and students should call (517) 353-4660 to schedule.
The Phone Information Nurse is available 24/7 for health-related questions and medical decision-making and can be reached at (517) 353-5557.

There is no charge for the first three medical office visits for enrolled MSU students each academic year. (Lab, medical procedures, prescriptions, and more will incur a charge.) MSU will bill insurance or the patient for the fourth and subsequent visits as well as other charges.

Health insurance is required for international students and highly recommended for all other students. MSU ID and insurance information should be presented at the time of the visit (visit olin.msu.edu/insurance for participating plans). Patients without insurance are welcome to use Student Health Services and they will be billed for services.

Visit olin.msu.edu or call (517) 353-4660 for more information.

COUNSELING & PSYCHIATRIC SERVICES (CAPS)
CAPS offers registered MSU students support for a wide range of concerns, including: depression, anxiety, stress management, homesickness, adjustment or acculturation, relationships, issues around race, gender and sexual orientation (LBGTQ), substance misuse, traumatic experiences, eating or body image concerns, and other personal mental health concerns.
CAPS has a diverse staff engaged in multicultural and collaborative approaches to provide quality care with a wide range of clinical expertise and lived experiences. Their goal is to help students address their concerns and improve their sense of wellness, connectedness, identity, meaning and motivation — often in the context of academic success.

Services include goal-oriented individual counseling, group counseling, intensive clinical services, psychiatric care and support with clinical coordination and referrals. See all CAPS services at caps.msu.edu/services.

Counseling services are confidential and at no charge, as are the first three lifetime psychiatry visits. The fourth and subsequent psychiatry visits are billed to insurance (patients concerned about potential cost should mention this to their provider).

Crisis services are available 24/7. Students can call us at (517) 355-8270 and press “1” at the prompt to speak with a crisis counselor. Other prompt options are available for those not in crisis.

CAPS will continue to offer telemental health services to students who prefer a remote option. Visit caps.msu.edu for more information on remote and in-person offerings.

Students can schedule an inital consultation at caps.msu.edu/schedule. During the consultation, a counselor will talk about next steps, which may include information about ongoing services at CAPS, helpful resources, or a referral to a campus partner or community provider based on your unique needs. Their goal is to connect students with the most available and appropriate level of care.

Established psychiatry patients can contact their provider through the MyMSUHealth patient portal at mymsuhealth.hc.msu.edu.

Established patients needing a prescription refill prior to their next appointment can use the MyMSUHealth patient portal to make the request: mymsuhealth.hc.msu.edu.

Visit caps.msu.edu or call (517) 355-8270 for more information.
